Sarala Birla University, Ranchi offers a two years full time Master of Science (MSc) program in Software Development, with the aim of serving the increasing requirement for qualified and skilled professionals who could harness the resources of the country to achieve its developmental growth. The Masters in Software Development is a specialist version of the MSc (Information Technology), intended for students without a computing science background. It is an intensive, practically oriented programme focussing on professional software development skills, which students apply to a significant Software Development project. The programme enables the students to learn how to analyse problems and design robust and elegant software systems to solve the problems. This includes gaining skills in programming, web development, database design, software testing and software engineering.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering strongly believes in the philosophy of Outcome Based Education. The pedagogy is practical, hands on and realistic. Problem Solving Exercises, Case Studies, Coding and Development, Presentations and Team Work are especially into practice.

The MSC in Software Development programme is divided into four semesters. Students are also exposed to the corporate world through regular industry-academia interface, special guest lectures, workshops, summer internship and short-term projects, all of which are a part of the course design and is mandatory for the students. A summer internship assignment between the first and second year in a company is compulsory, together with these students are also required to complete some short-term projects. Students are also having the opportunity to learn how to work as part of a development team using modern development techniques and tools.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

Objectives

The MSc in Software Development is designed in collaboration with industry to provide two years of intensive education in software development and is specifically designed for graduates of non-computing disciplines. It has an extremely high graduate employability rate.

ELIGIBILITY AND ADMISSION

Eligibility

The student should have Passed Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3 years duration. Must have obtained at least 50% marks (45% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying Examination.

Admission Process

They may also download the application form from the website of the University and may submit along with the relevant documents to the Information Centre of the University. They may also walk down to the University campus along with relevant documents to the Information centre for counselling and further admission process.

Applicants may submit the application form and required documents at the Admission Office personally or by post. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that the application form is complete in all respects, and is accompanied by the required documents.

Applicants should attach the copies of the following Certificates/Documents.

  • Passing / Provisional Certificates along with Mark Sheets of the qualifying Examinations
  • School/College Leaving Certificate last attended. 
  • Conduct Certificate 
  • Anti-Ragging Affidavit 
  • Medical Fitness Certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner / government health centre.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
SBU is having an active placement cell working through out for maintaining good placement record. The placement cell is credited for taking active participation in selection of companies visiting the University for Campus recruitment. It is supported by active placement committee members who have rich industry experience and valuable linkages in the corporate world. To make the students corporate ready as per the specific requirement of Industry, mandatory workshops in personality development exercised have been introduced in the curriculum, in which students are trained for public speaking, presentations, self-assessment exercises, etc. Students are also able to opt internship program in their respective fields.
